New Job

July 11th, 2008 at 04:29 pm

After many months of going back and for. I have FINALLY found a job on campus. I know will be working part-time but that will allow me to focus on school. I'll also be able to work from home in the morning to make up for the reduced income.

I'm excited but I know this will force me to create a spending plan and STICK to it.

Paying for Graduate School W/ Cash

May 13th, 2008 at 05:12 pm

I registered for 2 classes for the fall quarter and I'm wondering if I saved could I pay for it in cash versus taking out another loan?

I have three plans in the works right now.
1. I applied for 5 assistantships that would cover the cost of tuition. I have yet to hear back.

2. I applied for a regular staff position that would cover tuition.

3. My current employer does tuition reimbursements up to $1,500 after 6 months of employment. I've been here 2 months.

In the meantime I am thinking of starting a tuition fund because I'm tired of loans.

Free Gas For Your Car...

November 15th, 2007 at 02:01 pm

A co-worker informed me of an ad she heard this morning on tv on how to get free gas. According to this website if you put advertisements on your car you get free gas cards each month. The one catch i'm not so sure of is driving 1,000 miles each month. I honestly dont think I drive that much each month nor do I want to...

Another Opportunity?

July 23rd, 2007 at 12:29 am

So I really did finish my certification to start taking calls for Virgin Mobile...just waiting on my background check. This evening I got a phone call from WESTAT. I had almost forgotten that I had put in an applicaiton with them but I'm GLAD they called. She said everything was in order and they would give me a call when a training opened up.

I checked their website and they pay $8.25 an hour! WOO-HOO! Only thing it's outbound calls for data collection. I dont like rejection but I'll tell myself that its not personal. And they pay weekly so I WILL NOT COMPLAIN!

I'm really excited about these work from home opportunities! Cha Ching!

WOO-HOO!!

I have passed my basic certification for WEST!! I am now training to work for Virgin Mobile! I am sooooooooooo excited! But its a lot of information...and I have 10 days to complete the certfication.

But I see dollar signs...talk about motivation!

1 Step Closer

July 3rd, 2007 at 01:56 am

So I got emails from Westat (www.westat.com) for an IVR...it was pretty easy, just read from a script...I had to do the West IVR again. Got an email saying it was incomplete. Hopefully I hear something this week. I went back to Westat's website and they pay by the hour! Woo-Hoo! and they pay more if you work weekends!

Working from Home

July 2nd, 2007 at 09:23 pm

So I spent allllll day yesterday researching and apply for telecommuting gigs. Waiting to hear back. Who knew there were so many opportunities. But there are also a lot of scams out there so I was careful about the ones I applied to. American Express is hiring put only folk who live in Austin/Dallas/Houston not fair! That would have been really nice. But I'll keep my eyes open for something that pays decently.

In other news...I'm thinking about going back to school full-time. The only way I can make the type of money I need to is to go back to school. And if I go part-time I'll be there forever. This way I can spend more time with my son and focus on school. Granted I'll be broke...but aren't I now?

I also requested some books from the library on simple living. I know there are creative ways to live within my means and not look homeless, lol.

Work From Home?

July 1st, 2007 at 01:17 pm

I've come to a crossroads of sorts. Since I am a single mom who has to work I have to put my son in daycare. I pay his sitter $400 a month and I'm not entirely pleased with her care. I mean he's not abused but she hadn't been feeding him the way I instructed and she doesn't engage him the way I'd like. She has anywhere from 4-5 kids in her care each day. I wish I could just stay at home with hm and enjoy this time in his life. But how?

My first thought was to open up my own daycare. I would have to take in 4 kids to make what I make now. Which isn't bad. I've also been looking into other opportunities to work from home. I found a company that one of my friends works for taking phone calls: http://www.workathomeagent.com/. Hopefully they give me some good news. I could take calls for them when my son is asleep.

$20.50 day!

May 9th, 2007 at 11:06 pm

Today I finally took 4 pairs of shoes that I can no longer fit to the resale shop. They only took 2 pairs, the ones with the least wear and gave me $10.50. I'm not complaining. At this point in my life every piece of money is welcome, lol.

As I'm sorting my laundry I find a $10 bill in my capris....life is good!

What's going on?!

I've been super busy with my new business. I had my business launch and it went REALLY well. I had $275 in sales. Not bad for my first gathering. I've created my goals for April and as long as I stay focused I think I can do it.

In other good news...I got a RAISE at work. I'm really excited..it adds about $150 a month to my check.

If I have learned nothing more over the past couple of months...organization is key. I NEED, MUST, HAVE TO get organized. I realize that this affects a lot of areas in my life.

My New Venture

March 13th, 2007 at 05:18 pm

I've been racking my brain for a while now on ways to make additional income. So I've decided to become a Warm Spirit Consultant...

The thought of owning my own business is very appealing and I can work from home (hosting events at my house). And its what I make of it...so if this fails...it's my own fault!! Let the fun (and MONEY) begin!

Freecyclin' Rocks

March 8th, 2007 at 07:50 pm

Today has been a productive day. I discovered freecycle about a month ago and was overwhelmed by the amount of emails I got and the stuff that folks were giving away for FREE! Today I got really nice black floor lamp (my living room doesn't have a ceiling light and I have a floor lamp that's more for decoration than proper lighting) and tomorrow I'm getting a dinnette! I also went to get my $150 computer/desk/printer and found a snazzy couch/love seat for $200! My current couch leaves much to be desired but I'm gonna try to sell it on craigslists, if not I'll freecycle it.

Using my Credit Union's billpayer has made life MUCH easier for me. I'm glad its free!

I get these random emails for mystery shoppin' but they are always the day before! I'm still looking for other ways to bring in income.

Friday Free For All

March 2nd, 2007 at 07:18 pm

I recently switched credit unions and my new account has FREE bill payer. The last one charged $7 a month and I never used it. So I set it up to pay my car note, I'm excited! I think I will add the rest of my bills on there later, saves me time, postage and late fees.

I started my spending journal. I spent a grand total of $10 yesterday. I am gonna try to see if I can go a whole week without spending ANY money. I also returned $34 worth of baby clothes to Walmart that my son doesn't need...they were just cute! I have a bunch of random cash that I am going to deposit back into my account so I am not tempted to spend it.

I'm constantly trying to figure out a way to make more money...thinking about becoming a notary...hoping that I can get my job to pay for it!
